Finance Director

My retained client is a very successful privately-owned Group providing a wide range of services to the built environment. Their expertise covers planning, environmental consultancy, demolition, remediation and civil engineering. Their integrated provides a comprehensive, cost efficient, one trusted supplier and innovative solutions service to clients across a range of sectors. As part of their continued growth and planned succession the Board wishes to appoint a Group Finance Director to work alongside the Executive Board.

The Group FD must be able to add value to the strategic direction, commercial and operational performance, funding and growth of the business whilst remaining hands on and familiar with the financial detail of the company. Key to the role will be effective input to, and further development of, operational systems, procedures and controls across the business, together with commercial input to contracts and client relationships.
Technical financial expertise will be a given: you will be fully responsible for the fiscal stewardship of the business; improving financial control, providing timely accurate financial information together with meaningful analysis and forecasts in order to bring pro-active advice and influence to the executive management.

Management of cash, working capital and the development of strong relationships with external advisors and stakeholders will become increasingly important as the group grows and diversifies. A key focus will be the establishment of, and monitoring of, performance reporting systems (i.e. track performance against goals to ensure Group Directors are provided with regular reports) including value added KPI’s especially around contract revenues, WIP, cost to completion, claims etc.

This privately-owned group has a very strong culture. The successful candidate will have the drive, ambition and “commercial nous” to support the Executive Leadership and play a key role in driving the business forward, but they must also retain the integrity, prudence and self-awareness required in the fiscal management of the company’s affairs.

The Successful candidate will be a self-starter with a can-do mind-set, a passion for adding value and “going the extra mile” to support the Executive Management; challenging where necessary, always in an appropriate manner, and working to drive forward ongoing improvement across the business. Culture fit is vital. The new Group FD will share the values of loyalty, integrity, hard work and team work
that are the cornerstones of the company’s ethos.

You will be a Qualified Accountant and experienced Finance Director; a natural leader with the communication skills, credibility and gravitas to influence at Board level and throughout a diverse business; capable of operating strategically and prepared to be hands on and in the detail where necessary. Sector knowledge of civil engineering would be advantageous as would detailed exposure to contract led revenue accounting.
