Curtis Wool Direct Ltd has evolved to become one of the larger wool merchanting and processing company of its kind in Europe. They are the largest buyers of wool through the British Wool Marketing Board auction system and in addition to their direct farm and auction buying businesses in New Zealand, England and Ireland, Curtis are exclusive merchants of Viking Wool from Norway and Real Shetland Island wool.
Backed by a €2.5 billion Norwegian farming co-operative the scouring and combing plants in Bradford are unique. Continuous investment in new plant, equipment, research and development in new techniques, applications and processes continues to give wool supplied by Curtis an advantage over its competitors. Wool processed by the Group is to the highest environmental standards which makes it an unrivalled industry leader.
With continued investment comes an increased need and desire for financial control, reporting and commercial analysis. This will be provided by the new Financial Controller who will lead a small team and report to the Directors of Curtis Wool Direct with a dotted line for support and reporting to the Norwegian Group; who allow Curtis to operate semi-autonomously in their market.
Long-term, the business is looking to develop a plan for succession and candidates will likely be interested in progressing into the role of Finance Director; and beyond.
The Financial Controller will be able to further develop and define the finance function to ensure that the financial controls environment is robust, effective and capable of providing significant insight into the operations and strategy of the business. Delivering the full accounting process is key but your longer-term focus will be on working collaboratively with the wider business to offer support whilst also challenging assumptions, evolving commercial thinking and influencing longer term strategy and profitability.
Finance needs to be embedded in the business as an added value function and the Financial Controller must be able to mirror the enthusiasm, professionalism, dedication and entrepreneurial nature of the senior team.
The successful candidate will be a down to earth, hands on and pragmatic individual who is keen to develop their career into the future. A background in a processing or manufacturing environment will be important as will an appreciation or experience of international trade.
You will of course be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACMA, ACCA). The Financial Controller will play a significant part in the continued development and success of Curtis Wool Direct. We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate an ambition and commitment to the long-term success of the business and they will be incentivised accordingly.
