With a full (ish) pre-season in the legs Axon Moore FC kicked off the new season against Booth Ainsworth at Whalley Range Stadium last night.
Levels of expectation were high following the Hurst charity football triumph last season, with staff back in the office keen to assess any tactical changes that have been made over the summer period.
Similarly, last night’s game showcased the debut of AMFC’s latest addition wearing the famous orange shirt for the first time. Bradley Philip-Bayliss, AMFC’s marquee summer signing was given a spot in the starting line-up, but it wasn’t going to be a happy evening for the winger.
A cruel hamstring injury saw Bradley hit the showers after just half an hour with the game delicately poised. With legs tiring, credit to AMFC as in very hot and sticky conditions, found an extra gear and cruised to a 21 – 13 victory against the Stockport side.
There will be plenty of takeaways for the coaches to deliberate (most pressingly, the actual tactics to approach the game), but the result showed that the post-season break, including a number of all-inclusive holidays, didn’t hamper the team’s momentum for the 18/19 season.
