Friday saw our first ever annual Friends of Axon Moore Golf Day, which was a fantastic day networking and catching up on the course. Hosted by our Operations Director, Mark Turley, the golf tournament took place at his home course, Davenport Golf Club in Poynton, in the picturesque Cheshire countryside.
With the 43rd Ryder Cup taking place next week, team golf was very much appropriate for the occasion. A field of 26 golfers competed in a full 18 hole Better Ball Stableford competition and there were some fantastic shots spotted from the clubhouse and also a fair few duffed ones as well!
With the late summer sun shining throughout the day, the weather was beautiful so the course played well which allowed for some great scores.
The Results:
There were some generous prizes available but the dynamic duo of Capify’s Jeremy Booth and HKA’s Richard Aindow combined for a massive 44 team points to win the double’s competition by a single point. The runners-up were Kyle Stewart of Logically and Tom Bailey of Ultimate Performance, who were another superb pair. The bronze prize was taken by Ben Foreman and Tom Astbury, both of the Co-operative Group who scored 41 team points.
The Axon Moore contingent racked up the points with the pairing of Jonny Christmas and Ste Proudman narrowly missing out on the podium, with 40 team points. Elsewhere, Mark Turley, Sean Behan and David Colgrave put in strong performances but it was Joe Develing, playing in his first ever full-18, who surprised the field the most, proving he is a more than capable golfer.
A special mention also goes to out to Si Murphy and Andy Thorpe from our charity partners Street Soccer Academy, who finished in a respectable 5th place with 39 points.
Individually, there were some great scores with Jonny Christmas bringing in 34 points and Ste Proudman amassing 31 points to name a couple.
A successful event:
All in all it was a superb inaugural Axon Moore Golf Day and was the perfect opportunity to catch-up with many friends of Axon Moore after a long 18 months without meeting in person. Congratulations to the prize-winning golfers on their fantastic efforts. We will be hosting another golf day next year.
