Axon Moore are proud to be supporting Wickersley Partnership Trust in the appointment of a Chief Finance Officer. Wickersley Partnership Trust are a forward-thinking and ambitious multi-academy Trust based in Rotherham who have grown significantly from two to thirteen schools in recent years.

The Trust exists to further the interests of the young people it serves, with a vision to send all children into the world able and qualified to take full part in it.

The Chief Finance Officer is a key appointment in the Trust and will be central to the Trust achieving its ambitious goals in the coming years. Reporting in to an inspiring CEO, the Chief Finance Officer will provide strategic direction, leadership and inspiration to the Trust, its partners and its employees and will live and breathe their vision and values.

The key responsibilities and areas of influence for this role will include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing all aspects of the Trust’s financial management including developing, embedding a strong financial controls framework whilst ensuring financial accuracy and regulatory compliance

  • Providing strategic advice and support to the CEO in the financial aspects of their responsibilities as the Trust Accounting Officer

  • Lead, develop and coordinate the Trust’s finance team and their activities, including management accounts preparation, forecasting and budgeting, performance reporting and transactional processing

  • Review and improve existing financial systems and policies, ensuring they are streamlined, efficient, compliant and supportive of future growth

  • Develop and deliver 3–5 year strategic plans for finance, ensuring that key strategic decisions are taken with a full understanding of the financial implications and the stewardship of public funds

  • Offer financial review, benchmarking and challenge to the Trust and individual school’s performance to ensure value for money, budget delivery and financial viability

To be considered for this role, candidates should possess the following skills, experience and character traits:

  • Qualified finance leader (ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA or equivalent) with significant experience in a senior finance role. Qualified by experience candidates will also be considered

  • Candidates must have worked in a financial leadership role and have a strong track record of leading and developing people

  • Some experience in the education or multi-academy trust sector would be useful, although is not an essential prerequisite for this role

  • Candidates with experience in a commercial sector may possess some highly relevant skills for this role as the Trust looks to grow, evolve and become ever more financially secure

  • Rather than having specific sector or practical experience, the key implications for this role will be an alignment to the vision and values of the Trust, possessing high levels of passion and drive to contribute to it positively and the ability to think creatively to solve problems
