Job Overview:

Axon Moore are delighted to be working in partnership with a leading wholesale business in North Manchester. They are looking to hire an ambitious and driven Financial Controller.
As the Financial Controller you will assist the Financial Director with all aspects of financial management relating to the company, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecast preparation.

Main Duties:
  • Work closely with the Financial Director to professionally manage and control all aspects of the Company’s financial affairs and to ensure financial risks are identified and minimised
  • Lead and manage the Finance team
  • Provide outstanding financial support to all functions of the business and to external partners.
  • Responsibility for the accurate and timely preparation of the monthly management and annual statutory accounts
  • To provide a proactive financial service to all departments across the business
  • Develop and enhance the scope and content of financial information across the business including KPI’s, reporting to the Bank and performance against Covenants
  • Ownership of the annual Budget process including the assignment of GL cost codes to individual managers and subsequent 1-1’s to understand variances and identify cost savings
  • Regular update of trading & cash flow forecasts reflecting the input from other managers
  • Monthly reconciliation of the Management Accounts to the Margin Report investigating any significant variances, recommending appropriate countermeasures and feeding back to the Commercial Team responsible for the product costing
  • Maintenance of Balance Sheet control account reconciliations including Fixed Asset Register
  • Preparation / Input into capital expenditure requests and related payback calculations
  • Liaise as appropriate with third parties engaged by the Company in respect of Banking, Audit, Tax, Insurance and other matters
  • Overview and submission of returns to HMRC (PAYE and VAT returns, P11D’s etc)
  • Ensure all procedures within the Department are clearly documented and staff are cross trained to cover periods of absence
  • Develop a high level of knowledge across the Accounting software package to enable you to support other members of the team when required

Person Specification:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with practical experience ideally in a similar industry
  • Excellent IT skills (Excel, Word, integrated ERP packages (ideally MS Dynamics) and PowerBI
  • Highly motivated, personable, resilient and positive in attitude. Self-improvement mentality
  • Gains respect through leadership and management style and actions, motivational skills and competence in achieving objectives
  • Commercially aware with an excellent understanding of the business
  • Promotes a positive customer focused ethos throughout the team
  • Prioritises tasks, works effectively under pressure and does not allow emotions to affect relationships
