Group Financial Controller l Manchester l Privately Owned | Retail/Manufacturing

Job Overview:

Axon Moore are partnering with a dynamic fast growing foreign subsidiary of a large family owned manufacturing/retail business at very exciting time as they aim to significantly increase their market presence through both acquisitions and organic growth.

Reporting in to the UK Managing Director, serving as the number one finance figure, the role holder will also work closely with the Head of Retail Sales and representatives from the parent company and initially have two direct reports.

The ‘hands on’ nature of this role will entail leading and developing a small finance team, overseeing the management accounting, financial processes and controls, strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting, cash management, and board reporting. The chosen candidate will be a central figure in analysing business performance, planning and implementing the overall strategic direction and culture of the business.

Salary: £70,000 - £75,000

Location: South Manchester

Main Duties:
  • Financial leadership and strategy – working alongside the Managing Director and management team on developing and implementing business strategy, organisational structures, boosting commercial performance, and reducing costs.
  • Budgeting and forecasting – delivering group P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow forecasts. Working closely with the Head of Retail Sales in order to develop the annual group revenue budget in line with the business plan.
  • Month end and Management accounts.
  • Analysis of month end variances.
  • Cost saving and efficiency reviews.
  • Overseeing Payroll and pensions schemes of the business.
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for control systems, transaction processing and complying on all accounting standards.
  • Lead the annual audit process and production of statutory accounts.
  • Support the Corporation Tax calculation process and oversee submission of VAT returns and CIS calculations.
  • Lead and direct the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the Health and Safety Management systems, GDPR compliance, security management all disaster and emergency management, business continuity and risk minimisation programmes to ensure a safe and compliant working environment.
  • Managing a team of direct reports, providing coaching and mentoring to them in order boost their development and engagement within the business.
  • Overall responsibility for the HR function with the help of external support, eventually leading to the appointment of an HR Manager.
  • Support the integration of the two current retail businesses along with future acquisitions.
  • Future M&A involvement, preparation of financial data analysis.
Person Specification:
  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified.
  • Experience in driving commercial performance through provision of information, analysis, insight and recommendations.
  • Proficient in collating monthly management accounts independently.
  • Produce and analyse several MI reports, working with large volumes of data in Excel.
  • Experience in managing and mentoring team members, whilst driving high team performance.
  • XERO and Oracle experience essential, ideally also with Power BI experience.
  • Ability to swiftly learn software packages in use and recommend best options for merging and developing a growing business.
  • Understanding of how to manage payroll and pensions, and the legal and statutory requirements surrounding these.
  • Strong financial management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with an understanding of how to develop internal relationships.
  • Awareness of HMRC regulations.
  • High level of planning, organisational and time-management skills.
