Axon Moore has exclusively partnered with a high-growth, acquisitive business, based in Blackburn, as they search for an experienced Payroll Manager to play a pivotal role in coordinating the payroll function of the business through a period of sustained growth.

This role will be well suited to experienced and charismatic Payroll Managers who are incredibly organised and boast a fun, outgoing personality with a ‘can do’ approach to work. For this role, it is essential that candidates are process driven, possess exceptional knowledge of UK payroll protocol, able to effectively input ideas for improvement and boast proven experience in successfully managing payroll departments.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Overseeing a monthly, multi-site payroll
  • Reviewing and implementing new payroll systems/processes as necessary
  • Leading on payroll related projects
  • Manage and develop the payroll function - coaching, one to ones, appraisals, etc.
  • Responsible for all year end processing
  • Regular liaison with senior stakeholders
  • Reconcile payroll related balance sheet accounts
  • Prepare monthly analysis of payroll costs and support the FP&A team with variance analysis
  • Answering and dealing with any pay related queries
  • Calculating overtime and shift payments
  • Processing holiday, sick and maternity/paternity pay
  • Ensuring correct PAYE/NI deductions are made and paid to HMRC on time
  • Processing new starters and leavers
  • Issuing P45’s and other tax forms
Required Experience and Skills:
  • At least 5 years’ end-to-end payroll experience, preferably with managerial experience
  • Able to efficiently manage and organise their workload
  • Microsoft Excel proficient
  • A good understanding of PAYE, NI, RTI SMP, SSP and other HMRC statutory regulations
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Proactive and self-motivated in nature
  • Able to work efficiently towards deadlines
