Axon Moore volunteer at Smart Works' Job Fair

Back to Blogs

Earlier this week, nine members of the Axon Moore team supported the brilliant Smart Works charity at its first central Manchester jobs fair. Open to all, this event saw over 170 women attend, all seeking employment advice and guidance. Axon Moore spent the day volunteering, helping run information desks and partner with attendees. The team offered career advice and guidance, referring guests to some of the brilliant employers at the event including Morrisons, Bureau Veritas, AJ Bell, Metrolink and Starling Bank, as well as some of the courses, networking groups and skill sessions they could sit in on.

For some unemployed women looking for work, having the option to curate a wardrobe suitable for the workplace remains out of reach. Not for profit organisation, Smart Works, was founded to address this exact concern. They tackle issues of gender and class disparity, by offering personalised guidance to women from underprivileged and minority backgrounds helping them to secure employment and ensure they’ll be interview ready, giving them the confidence to succeed in the workplace.

Beyond the clothing, Smart Works gives 1-1 training on CV writing, perfecting a cover letter and how to make the best first impression at an interview.

Gill Bellchambers, Director at Axon Moore stated: “We were inspired to learn stories about the attendees’ resilience, their drive to learn new skills and how Smart Works enabled them to feel empowered in their job searches. The work that Smart Works do is critical in supporting the drive for an inclusive workforce and overcoming barriers women face when entering employment. We are proud to partner with a charity that supports these initiatives and that shares common values with ours.”

Axon Moore is committed to ensuring we provide a diverse and inclusive place to work and our commitment to diversity is best championed through our Women in Business Initiative. This programme is designed to support, inspire and equip women working in senior business roles and through inclusive events we aim to foster dialogues about the issues women face, celebrate success and provide guidance and advice from a range of brilliant guest speakers.
