Axon Moore are working with a large PLC operating across the UK and Europe to appoint an Assistant Indirect Tax Manager to assist the Indirect Tax Manager. The business operates multiple sites within the UK and has its Shared Service Centre based in North Manchester.
The Assistant Indirect Tax Manager will assist the Indirect Tax Manager with oversight of the small team and department and all submissions of various environmental indirect taxes across the group. You will ensure that data is accurate and up to date and the company is fully compliant with all packaging reporting requirements. You will be a key point of contact for the business and will be involved in projects and process implementation/change.
Salary and benefits:
Salary - £50,000 - £56,000 DOE, 25 days holiday plus banks and extra based on attendance, pension, hybrid working 50% in the office, 9-5 core hours with flexibility, free company products and free parking.

Responsibilities include:
- Support the Indirect tax manager in providing day to day advice on indirect tax consequences of new/changes to supply chains
- Assisting/managing indirect tax enquiries from tax authorities
- Perform compliance reviews for VAT/Intrastat/ESL returns submitted across the group
- Identify opportunities for simplification/standardisation of the monthly VAT reporting
- Provide monthly cash flow information to Treasury dept
- Provide support & training to the indirect tax accountant
- Provide training to the wider finance team on VAT matters
- Work with external advisers re foreign VAT claim & other VAT opportunities
- Stay up to date with changes in legislation, assessing the impact to the business. Ensure new/existing supply chains are fully compliant with EU legislation across all McBride jurisdictions
- Successful implementation of new taxes in a compliant manner avoiding penalties & loss of reputation
- Assurance that the declarations are filed accurately and any errors are identified and corrected before they are flagged at audit.
- Provide support to the Indirect Tax Manager on the various projects ongoing/upcoming:
- Implementation of e-invoicing
- AP automation software
- S4 Hana system implementation
- Plastic packaging taxes & other environmental taxes
- Full or part qualified ACCA/ACA/CIMA qualification
- Good knowledge of excel (vlookups, pivot tables, etc.)
- Preferable to have experience of using SAP
- Previous exposure to indirect taxes, particularly customs and/or environmental taxes
- The candidate must be fluent in English, however an additional European language (French, Dutch, German, Spanish) would also be welcomed.
