Axon Moore are working with a successful retailer in the search for a technically strong and confident Financial Controller who will help improve & shape their growing finance function; maintaining and implementing financial controls whilst leading and developing the finance team.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Overall responsibility for team management and activity in the transactional finance team, including the treasury team, purchase ledger, sales ledger, payment processing
  • Daily cash management and large transactional approvals
  • Ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded and reconciled
  • Oversight for day to day processing of all subsidiary company financial processes
  • Maintain and implement financial reporting systems to comply with regulations and legislation
  • Work closely with the Financial Reporting Manager to ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner, enabling an efficient monthly reporting cycle
  • Examine all financial reports and date closely to check for discrepancies
  • Collaborate with auditing partners to ensure proper compliance with all regulations
  • Motivate and lead finance team members by clarifying roles and providing feedback, encouragement and coaching
  • Responsibility for annual insurance renewals and ongoing insurance policy and vehicle fleet incidents
  • Lead projects focused on updates and improvements to accounting systems, including process automation
  • Support and participate in cross departmental projects as required
  • Build strong trust and relationships with key internal stakeholders
  • Ad-hoc analysis to support finance, senior management and the board of directors

Key requirements
  • Qualified Accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA) or qualified by experience
  • Previous background of working within finance for a retailer
  • Excellent people management / leadership skills
  • Ability to oversee a team successfully managing big data and a high volume of transactions
  • Experienced in creating & maintaining robust financial controls and processes
  • Strong excel skills and confident with multiple systems
  • Keen eye for efficiencies and strong business improvement skills
  • Robust, confident, positive character who can articulate themselves excellently and communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels
