Job description

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join a high profile, entrepreneurial, owner managed SME as the Head of Finance on a part time basis (3 days per week).

Having recently been acquired by the new owners, this business is in a period of both growth and transformation, and after recently appointing an experienced MD, the owners are now looking to hire a Head of Finance into a newly created role.

The role will be responsible for bringing the accounts in house (having previously been outsourced), setting up systems and processes and taking overall responsibility for the cashflow, budgeting and forecasting and producing the management accounts.

You will work closely with the MD and Board of Directors playing a key role in business strategy, financial planning and influencing the direction and growth of the business.

The role is part time (3 days per week) and will be mainly remote working, with the requirement to travel t London based Head Office 2-3 times per month.


The key duties of the role will include:

  • Preparation of budget and 3 year plan
  • Preparation of Management accounts and reporting pack, with variances vs budget and providing an insightful narrative
  • Cash flow forecasting and monitoring
  • Development of and reporting on operational KPIs
  • Take responsibility for HR compliance and template contracts
  • Overall set up of the accounting function including procedures and controls
  • Recommendation and set up of suitable accounting software
  • Overseeing the sales and purchase ledgers, and liaising with customers & suppliers as needed
  • Day-to-day credit control, collecting payments and chasing customers. Liaising between client & colleagues to solve any invoice queries.
  • Maintaining event records such as tickets and sponsorships
  • Bank payments & receipts & reconciliation
  • VAT returns
  • Ad hoc project support to the MD – analytical business support

The successful candidate will:
  • Be fully ACCA/ACA/CIMA qualified - Essential
  • Have previous experience of working in owner managed/SME in a standalone senior finance role - Essential
  • Have previous experience of setting up systems and improving processes in a finance function - Essential
