Payroll Product Owner l Up to £40k | South Manchester |Software

Job Overview:

My client is seeking a skilled and dedicated Product Owner who will play a crucial role in shaping the development of their cutting-edge payroll software by collaborating closely with the development team and ensuring that the right features are delivered to meet customer needs. Your deep understanding of the payroll industry, meticulous attention to detail, clear communication, and ability to manage the product backlog will be key to the success of their software offerings.

Location: South Manchester

Responsibilities:

Industry Expertise:

• Ensure products remain compliant with relevant payroll legislation, including PAYE, NICs calculations, and IR35 regulations.

• Demonstrates comprehensive expertise in payroll calculations with the capability to proficiently navigate intricate spreadsheets and perform ad hoc calculations (ability to apply this to complex umbrella payroll will be a distinct advantage).

• Exhibits the aptitude to differentiate between impactful features and non-essential functionalities.

Development Team Collaboration:

• Serve as the primary point of contact between the development team and stakeholders.

• Work closely with software developers, designers, and QA engineers to guide the development process and ensure the accurate implementation of features.

• Collaborate with the development team to plan and execute within the context of the current development cycle (sprint), delivering specific features and enhancements.

• Review completed work against acceptance criteria and user stories, accepting or rejecting work as

appropriate.

• Monitor progress and provide ongoing support to the team during the sprint, addressing any roadblocks or challenges that arise.

Feature Management:

• Maintaining a prioritised list of features, user stories, and tasks that align with the product vision and

strategic goals.

• Continuously refine and prioritise the backlog to reflect changing customer needs, market trends, and

business priorities.

Detailed Requirements:

• Provide comprehensive and well-defined requirements for the development team, including user stories, acceptance criteria, and any necessary technical specifications.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather input and feedback, ensuring a clear understanding of feature

expectations.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Minimum Grade B in Maths GCSE or equivalent.

• Demonstrated history of working in a payroll services or closely related industry to the UK Temporary Labour Market.

• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to break down complex features into clear user stories and

acceptance criteria.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to make informed decisions quickly.

• Knowledge of payroll software or related domain is a strong advantage.

• Flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

• Self-motivated and proactive approach to managing and driving feature development.

• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
